Our Mission and Our Beliefs

What is IAACT?

The International Association of Applied Control Theory (IAACT) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization founded in February 1997.

Our Mission

The International Association for Applied Control Theory is organized to help people live and work effectively with self and others. We facilitate a structure in which members can systematically pursue teaching, research, and program creation. We provide individual and organizational development in the fields of education, human services, business, justice, and counseling.

Our Vision

IAACT will be the global leader in promoting personal and organizational change through understanding and applying Perceptual Control Theory, the scientific model of internal motivation and human behavior.

Principles of Perceptual Control Theory

  • People are internally motivated.
  • Behavior is the control of perception.
  • All behavior is purposefully intended to reduce error.
  • We operate on multiple levels, with the higher levels providing reference perceptions for the lower levels.
  • Change comes through effective self-evaluation.
